Therapy is certainly helpful, but I encourage you to be an aware participant…
It’s important to remember that western psychology is rooted in modern and conquest mindsets (competion, domination, materialism).
So while therapists are well meaning,
their education leads them to support separation and hyper individualism
versus rooted interdependence with all of life.
It’s also important to remember that most of the research this paradigm
is based on was done with white college students and children in school,
basing dictates of what is ‘human’ and ‘normal’ on institutionally shaped and privileged people.
There are useful things to be found around communication, etc. but it also perpetuates many unconscious layers of ‘enlightenment vs. savages’
It’s essential that BIPOC work with BIPOC who have unpacked these nuances.
Above all, as in all things,
trust your inner sense of what is true or not true for you, and your path
